Let's start with the kitchenette. I can't find a good original shot of the whole area, but the kitchenette is the area just beyond the stairs in the below pic. The kitchenette is a little over half of that space (the other half is unfinished storage).

Originally, we were going to have an L-shaped countertop for a sitting area (where the gap in the wall is), but our project manager mis-quoted originally... it was going to be double what he said it was (a few thousand more, just to do the extra dang countertop). We could've been jerks about it since he did quote us on paper for it, but we weren't. We're going to figure out some kind of island/bar seating area and maybe a shelving unit in that empty wall spot, but we figured we'll live with it for awhile.
Update: We got a little table and chairs to put on that blank wall. I'll probably paint/stain the top of it at some point.
