Let me start off by saying that... I am SO not cool in panic situations. I am not calm, I am not collected... I'm not the kind of person you'd want around you if you cut your finger off or break your leg. TRUST me!
OK, back to my story. Earlier this month, we had made Taylor a really cool Valentine's box for her class.
Cool, right?
Well, what wasn't cool was Taylor, one Sunday before church, running up to this basketball goal in her socks, and pretending to slam dunk in it (while it was on the floor). She slipped in her socks and fell straight on her chin on the hardwood floors. Let's just say that her chin skin didn't stick together after that.
It wasn't soooo dramatic- maybe 1.5 inches of open skin? But whoa, you'd think she would have lost a leg. My face in horror definitely didn't make Taylor feel better. Stephen and I started talking about the possibility of stitches... and Taylor was like, "STITCHES?? Are there stitches in there? Get the stitches out!" Poor thing, so anxious.
We decided to bandage her up, take her to church (while I texted my CHOA nurse friend a picture) and ask a couple of nurse friends there what they thought. One tried to bandage it up using butterfly bandages. She was able to close the wound everywhere but in the middle, the widest section. She said that stitches would be necessary. Meanwhile, my CHOA nurse friend, Kelly, called me and confirmed that based on the picture, stitches were needed.
I just DREADED the Emergency Room with all the yucky flu cases going around.
But, we headed to the ER... and did our best to combat those germs.
The wait in the waiting room was about 30 minutes, but then we had to wait for vitals to be taken, a room to open, etc., etc. THEN, once we were in the room, we had to wait some more, then they gave her numbing medicine for her chin that had to settle for 30 minutes, so it was more waiting...
Finally, the apologetic doctor came in, stitched Taylor up, and we were good to go!
5 stitches later!
My tough girl.
5 hours after leaving church, around 4 PM, we left, ate some lunch (we were sooo hungry!), got Taylor some fro-yo for being a big girl, and finally made it home.
The cool thing is my CHOA nurse friend, Kelly, who is a wound care nurse, offered to bring her suture kit home the next Friday to take Taylor's stitches out for her (instead of having a nurse at the ER do it!). Taylor was so excited to have Kelly do it. She was super brave, and she ended up getting a sleepover with Addie at their house afterwards.
It's looking so much better already!
