Dad's Memorial Service

We had my dad's memorial service on December 7, 2020. With COVID and the fact that he was cremated, we had scheduled it a few months out. His ashes will be buried at the military cemetery, which also took a little while to process his paperwork, etc.

We were supposed to only have around 10 people, but his immediate family alone was 14. So my mom sweet-talked her way to get more like 22. ;) My cousins from South Carolina came, my aunt and uncle from Florida came, and other cousins from Georgia also came.

All 7 grandkids got up to speak, and it was the most special, yet heartbreaking thing. They each wrote what they wanted to say, and some got through it, while others didn't. They all loved him SO much. My brother-in-law also talked about my dad, telling lots of funny stories. It was perfect, and honestly, just what my dad would've wanted.

After the service, we went back to my mom's house, where she had a nice spread of food and drinks. We hung out for hours that day together, finally calling it a day around 7 PM. It was very special, and I'm so thankful that we were able to have this gathering, despite COVID.

Taylor is TEN!

Taylor is double digits!! She is such a sweet, caring girl with a twist of sarcasm and a dry sense of humor. She is so very thoughtful, which can be a blessing, for obvious reasons, and a curse, when that thought turns into worry. As sweet as she is, she doesn't like cleaning her room, or being told she has to stop doing something fun to do a chore or homework or something. Thankfully, she is rocking it at school; she ran for student council and made it; then she ran for treasurer and got it! She was 2nd runner up in the spelling bee for her class, when we didn't even know about it. Her teachers always tell us they wish they could have a classroom full of Taylors. She does running club every week and loves playing basketball. She loves riding her bike, her (new) electric scooter, playing hoops in the driveway, Facetiming her friends, and playing games on her iPad.

Back to her birthday! Her first little celebration was at Thanksgiving with us, her grandmom, her aunt, uncle, and cousins. We had a little cake and she opened some presents!

Her birthday looked a little different this year! We got a call the Sunday after Thanksgiving, saying that Taylor had to quarantine since a kid in her class tested positive for COVID. So, she spent her birthday at home, doing digital learning! Boo.

It was sweet, though- her teacher recorded her (remaining) class singing to her. Her basketball coach and his daughter swung by and gave her a gift. Her friend Abby and her mom also came by and gave her a gift. She has some very sweet friends!

Taylor got to pick where to get dinner from (Your Pie) and she opened a few presents from us.

We did delay her sleepover birthday party since she was quarantined, which still hasn't happened yet... hopefully soon. Happy 10th birthday to my sweet Taylor!!
