On Monday (Memorial Day), we had Braves tickets for that evening. The original game we went to back in April was cancelled because of the rain, so this was the make-up game. Well, guess what? It was supposed to rain and storm all evening. Some luck we have!
We watched the weather all day and were convinced that we weren't going to chance it. However, around 6 PM, the skies seemed to open up. It looked like the 7:10 game might be delayed, but that there was a decent chance that the weather would clear up around 9:00 or so. We decided to go for it. Crazy, right?
(Well, it helps that we're only 30 minutes away from the stadium now, instead of 1 hour, 15 minutes).
(It also helps that we have three kiddos, especially the middle one (!!) who are super into the Braves now. Taylor knows all their names, numbers, stats, etc... even the announcers names! That was how I was as a child, too, only not until 4th/5th grade).
So, we headed down there, and, even though it wasn't raining, they delayed the start of the game. I guess they knew what was heading that way. We ate dinner, walked around, joined the Kids Club, walked through the history of the Braves section, etc. There's a lot to do to keep you entertained at the stadium, that's for sure.
Sure enough, the rain came. Luckily there were no storms, but it was pouring. We weren't holding our breath, but were hopeful they would start eventually.
Finally, the rain slowed, and they announced the new starting time... 10:05 PM! ha! They got the field ready, and finally the players came out. Our kids were wide awake, but I had images in my head of carrying three sleeping children out towards the end. ;)
The cool thing was that they said we could sit anywhere we want, so we started off in the lower outfield seats. Suzuki hit a home run in the 2nd inning, so we all got $5 off a Racetrack purchase the next day (hello free $25!). We got to see the fireworks go off after that home run, too.
We then moved to the 3rd base side, where we stayed until we finally left in the 8th inning at 1:15 AM.
The kids were such troopers and didn't complain once about the walk back to the car, though they didn't last long once we were driving home.
We got home around 2:00 AM! Waaaaaaaay past my bedtime. ;). It was fun! I'm glad we took the chance.
