Nature Scavenger Hunt

We beat the heat this morning and did a photo nature scavenger hunt around the neighborhood!

Here's the list:

And here's what we found:

1.  Green leaf:

2.  A rock that's a big as your hand, or bigger:

3.  Pinecone:

Notice Sydney's fake "in pain" face.

4.  Blue Flower:  The one thing we couldn't find :(  Darn hydrangeas didn't bloom this year!

5 & 7. Orange Flower/Purple Flower:

We found both of these together.  One stop shop!

6.  Yellow Flower:

8.  A stick shaped like a Y:

9.  Something red:

10.  A beautiful rock:

The picture doesn't show it, but that middle rock was shimmering in the sun.

11.  A big leaf:

12.  A funny-shaped leaf:

It looked like a rocket in person.

13.  A plant that is taller than you!

It was fun!

Summer, week 4

Monday: Today, I was just cranky.  I think we were all tired from getting back from our trip, and the kids were extra whiny, and I wasn't in the mood to handle it well.  Sigh.  We all slept in until about 8:30 (woohoo!) and our babysitter came over at 8:45.  I went to the park and ran an errand, then came back to get the kiddos ready for swim lessons.  All three of them were in the same class, which made it nice- all three were done in 45 minutes!  Parker's attention span was that of a potato, and there were unfortunately lots of distractions around.  But, overall it went well!  The swim instructor is able to teach each kid based on his/her level.  Anyways, we got home, ate lunch, and I insisted on a mandatory "rest hour".  No one went to sleep, but I did get one hour of time to myself.  When the kiddos came out, they played outside while I vacuumed and cleaned out the car.  It was hot!  After popsicles (and sidewalk chalk all over a certain 6-year-old's face) we jumped in the shower and had our PJs on by 4 PM.  I made dinner and we ate at 4:45 :)  We played the rest of the night, the kiddos went down, I watched the Bachelorette and some Friends reruns, and went to bed!

Tuesday: This morning, Sydney woke up extra early, got her brother and sister up with her, and fixed breakfast for them!  I'm talking, waffles in the toaster, grits in the microwave, cereal with milk.  It was very sweet, even though I did have a bit of a mess to clean up.  We went to swim lessons again, came home, ate lunch, and attempted another rest hour.  Our normal babysitter had a college class today, so we asked a sweet girl from church to babysit.  The kids were so. excited. !!!  When she came over at 1:30, the kids busted out of their rooms to see her.  I knew they were happy and content with her, so I ran at the park (while the nearby temperature sign kept flashing 99 degrees), washed the car, got gas, and went to Walmart to get a few things.  Mostly, it was a brain break for me.  I wouldn't change my new "job" for anything, but I've found that my patience has been much thinner this week.  A couple hours away seemed to do the trick.  Oh, and Stephen's gone this week from 5 AM Monday to 7 PM Wednesday.  That's part of my crankiness, I think... 3 whole days with just me and the kids, trying to entertain, console, feed, clean, feed some more.  ;)  When I got home, we went across the street to play in the little pool our neighbors just got.  It's a big plastic pool that gets hooked up to the water and has chlorine and a filter.  Totally Walmart fancy!  It was only 2.5 feet deep, so it was perfect for the kids to play in.  We headed back, took showers, ate dinner, watched TV, and called it a night!

Sydney worked on a book this morning.  It was adorable.

Oh, and Taylor made lunch while I was folding laundry!  I could get used to this!

Wednesday: Today, the crankiness disappeared!  Yay!  We all slept in until 8:15 (I think this was a big reason for the better mood) and we ate breakfast and played.  Swim lessons were cancelled because the instructor was sick, so we went to the library instead for story hour.  I've realized this week that Parker has a really hard time sitting for more than a minute.  Let's hope this passes!  The girls checked out some books, then we headed home.  After lunch and an attempted rest hour, our babysitter from church came over.  I went to Home Depot and got some veggies to plant, which I did when I got home.  The kids played outside in the sprinkler.  It was HOT!!!!!!!  We got in the shower, got dressed, Stephen came home from being out of town, and we headed to church for dinner and grow group.  It was a great night, a late night, but fun.

This is what the sign said the temp was when I went running.  Let's just say I didn't get far.

Thursday: I have to say that it is nice to be able to sleep in a bit!  The kiddos were up close to 8 (and they're my alarm clock, so I get up when they do!).  I made them breakfast, and they watched a couple shows on the tv while I attempted a workout.  Swim lessons were cancelled again- the poor instructor broke out in some horrible rash all over her body, and her doc advised her not to get in the chlorine.   So, instead, we went to the park by the kids' former daycare, and we got to go inside and visit each of their old classes.  Then, we walked to the playground to play.  We were there total for about an hour, and it was hot.  It's not even officially summer yet, and it is blistering!  When we got home, we ate lunch and Parker actually took a nap!  The rest of the day, we played, did crafts, I cooked dinner, cleaned up, etc.  The kids were alternating between laughing and crying.  We couldn't have many of these days cooped up inside in a row, but it was nice to have one today.  I got a couple of crafts done, things organized in the house, and more.  If you know me, you know I love to feel like I accomplished something. :)

Up until about a week ago, this boy was scared to go down slides.

Work it!

The ducks starting chasing us!

We pulled out the puffy paint!

Friday: TGIF!  Just kidding.  Every day is like the weekend now.  It's so strange!  Anyways, today, the kiddos did have swim lessons, and we made a Goodwill run.  We hung around the house the rest of the day, and I made a grocery store run while the kiddos stayed home with Stephen.  I made dinner for us, along with a friend who recently had surgery, and Stephen and I did the exciting task of backing up our computer so we could reformat the slow thing.  Good times!

No, not Sydney at swimming lessons.  Fun with a new app. :)

Saturday: Stephen and I took turns running this morning.  I can't get over how miserable the heat is already!  Stephen took the girls out to run some errands, and Parker and I hung out.  I did some laundry, changed sheets, cooked some food, etc.  That afternoon, we headed up to my sister's house to hang out and have a Father's Day dinner for the guys.  My parents came over, my nieces were there... everyone had a great time.  We stayed until about 8:45, got back at about 9:45, and the kiddos crashed!

Three awesome dads!

While we were leaving, a neighbor's dog hopped in our open car door.  If you know us, you know that a) all three kids of ours are terrified of animals and b) the thought of a dog in my car disgusts me.  Oh yeah, my brother-in-law got quite the chuckle when he saw this.

Sunday: Happy Father's Day!!  We all slept in a little bit today, Stephen got to open his gifts, and then we headed to church!  We spent the afternoon cleaning, cooking, helping the neighbor with his yard.  Our two sets of neighbors came over for a Father's Day grill out.  The kids got to run and play and eat.  And run some more, and eat.  All together, the kids are 6, 4, 3, 2, 2, and then two babies.  2 girls and 5 boys.  Sydney and Taylor had fun being the "older" kids and being in charge.  :)  We played until about 9:30!  A great day!

Sydney wanted to race everybody!

Summer, week 3

Monday: I actually had to set the alarm clock this morning, because the girls had cheer camp to attend!  We went and picked up Raegan, who I'm watching when her mom works, and then headed up near Winder to cheer camp.  Sydney woke up c-r-a-n-k-y, saying she didn't feel well.  I couldn't tell if it was real or fake, and I honestly felt a bit guilty leaving her at camp... but, once she saw the fun gym with all the cool equipment, she chippered-up rather nicely.  Raegan, Parker, and I watched them for about 30 minutes before heading to a nearby park.  We met up with our friends Kristin, Savannah, and Ryker again.  They played and played for a couple of hours... it was HOT!!!  We had a picnic in the shade and then ventured out where the sign said "path ends in 600 feet, open meadow ahead".  It was a cool place to get some pictures!  We then headed back to pick up the girls, and we got to see the last 30 minutes of their camp.  They were jumping on the trampoline at this point, and then practiced their group cheer at the end (O.M.G... Taylor and the cheer... it was SO cute!).  We headed home, and the babysitter came over so I could run (holy 91 degree heat) and go to the grocery store (Stephen flew to Arkansas for the day).  We hung out the rest of the evening, staying cool in the AC, warming up leftovers, trying to get Parker to go on the potty (no such luck!) and playing upstairs quite nicely.  It was a good, napless day, so I'm hoping everyone gets a restful night's sleep!

This was Sydney right before dropping her off.

This boy sweats so much, he doesn't need hairspray to make his hair stand straight up!  Just sweat!

Taylor at the end of the camp session today!

Tuesday: Today was day 2 of cheer camp!  We picked up Raegan again and headed toward Winder.  After dropping the girls off, Raegan, Parker and I headed to Great Clips to get Parker a good haircut.  Then, we went to the Winder Airport to see some airplanes.  We got to see an airplane taxi in, park, two men get out, have their car driven right up to the airplane, them get in the car and leave.  Must be nice, eh?  Then, we went to the library, and lucky for us, story time started within about 10 minutes!  A lady read to them, played games, and blew bubbles.  Then, we went to lunch, then headed back to the little town of Auburn (where the cheer camp actually is).  It's a really small town that the locals have made really cute.  We tried to go to the park, but it was closed down for construction.  We walked up the block and found a police station.  I decided to take the kids by to see if we'd happen to run into an officer.  We didn't, so I asked the lady behind the desk if any officers were available to say hi.  Two policemen walked through the door (hubba, hubba!) and were so sweet, giving high fives and posing for a picture.  Raegan and Parker were so excited.  Then, they have this random train car parked by the railroad tracks that is open for people to go in.  After all this excitement, we headed back to cheer camp to get Sydney and Taylor.  We headed back home and played inside the rest of the day, while it stormed outside!

Haircut.  No tears!

Super Parker! ( I have no idea who this super hero is.  Better get on that.)

bubbles!

This is how we found Taylor when we got to camp.  Apparently, Sydney had said something that had made her mad and she didn't budge for the last 30 minutes!

Fudgsicle on an 87 degree day... bath not optional.

Wednesday: Today was the last day of cheer camp!  Raegan didn't come play today, so the three kids and I headed out early.  We dropped the girls off and Parker and I headed to Harbins Park to run.  It wasn't too hot, but it was muggy.  Parker played on the playground for a bit, and then we ran a couple of errands before running back home.  Since Stephen was in town, I made Parker lunch and then he took a good, long nap.  I went back to pick the girls up and I got to watch their performance.  It was adorable!  I realized I need to sign my kiddos up for gymnastics (consistently) because they really enjoy it.  We came back home, and I took a 2 hour nap.  I got up in time to get ready to go to church for our summertime small groups.  They do small groups differently in the summer, where it's a potluck dinner and we do a group lesson where we sit in smaller tables of 6-8 people to talk.  It's nice, because you don't have to commit to every Wednesday, since everyone has different summer plans.  We didn't get home until late, and we all hit the hay!

All that cheering wore her out!

Thursday: We left town around lunchtime today, after a morning of packing up and getting ready.  We headed down to south GA for a long weekend!  Stephen had to go down to Jacksonville for work on Friday, so we made it a family affair and went down to Waycross to see Stephen's family.  Around 5:30 PM, we got to Stephen's dad's house, and he cooked us a feast.  We then headed over to Stephen's cousin's house.  They just had a new baby, and they have a little girl who is a week younger than Parker, so the kids got to play.  It was fun, and the kids were able to blow of some steam after that long drive!

Parker pushing his baby.

He loved baby Aubree!

Prince(ss?) Ariel.

Parker and Addie Grace!

Friday: We woke up early and headed down to Jacksonville!  Stephen dropped me and the three kiddos off at a children's museum, while he went to his meeting.  We stayed for about 2.5 hours, which was a perfect amount of time.  There was a lot to do- an indoor playground, (pretend) firetruck/ambulance/police car, indoor basketball, a radio/DJ booth, a puppet show, a grocery store, etc.- but 2.5 hours was about max.  Anyways, the kids had fun, and when Stephen picked us up, we went to a seafood place for lunch on Jacksonville Beach.  Then, we walked out to the pier overlooking the beach and ocean.  That water was calling my name!  Unfortunately, my bathing suit was back in Waycross!  :(  That night, we went back to Stephen's cousin's house and we ordered pizza.

He'd pick up a fruit and look at each one.  I caught this funny look, which made me laugh :)

Oh, so healthy!  Too bad it doesn't happen all the time in real life.

It was hot!

Saturday: We woke up and headed to a nearby park this morning.  It wasn't the biggest hit, as Sydney fell off the balance beam and got a huge bruise on her thigh, and the gnats were out. of. control.  Yuck. So, back to the house we went!  After lunch, Parker went down for a nap and I took the girls to the mall for a couple of hours.  Then, we headed over to another one of Stephen's cousin's house and went swimming!  As fearful as I am of the pool with the three kids, thankfully, everything went well. The kids had a blast.  We grilled out, hung out, and got home really late (again!).

Jumping to cousin Logan!

Giving Addie Grace some kisses.

Sunday: We woke up, packed up, and headed home!  Homeward bound!  The 5 hour drive was long, with the kids asking every 20 minutes how much longer until we got home.  But, we finally got home around 2:30.  Stephen and I crammed in a bunch of things that had to be done- grocery store, lawn mowed, deep cleaning of house, dinner cooked, kids bathed.  It is so good to be home!
