Parker's Baseball Season

Last summer, Parker was SO into watching the Braves, which led to him wanting anything baseball-related (bats, gloves, gold necklaces... you know, the basics).  We had already signed him up for fall soccer, but he was definitely Baseball Dreaming.  FINALLY! Spring came around, and he got to play.

And it was only fitting... his team was the Braves!

He played in the 6U league, and his team consisted of mainly Kindergartners.  A couple of boys had played for a couple of years and were pretty decent, while most of the others either hadn't played before or didn't have a lot of skills.  Parker picked some skills up pretty quickly!  He mostly played pitcher (the coach pitches, but they have a player on the pitching mound for fielding).  Most of the balls go to the pitcher in this league, so he got a lot of practice with fielding grounders and throwing to first.  He consistently got on base, but most of his hits were dribblers in the in-field that he was able to beat out, or the throw to 1st wasn't good.  The boys' knowledge of baseball rules (when to touch the base vs. tag the runner, etc.) was something that was barely grasped, so it was humorous watching the kids at times.

Parker had a really nice, patient coach... we chose to play in a smaller baseball program (more "laid back") which was a perfect setting for Parker.  I'm not sure if he wants to play again in the fall or not, so we'll see what the future holds!
