12 months!!

Happy birthday to my sweet Parker!!!  I seriously can't believe he is one year old.

9/27/13

What a month!  Parker is starting to turn into more of a "toddler" than a baby.  Here are some of his accomplishments!
  • Lots and lots of new foods, including oranges, cheese, different meats, yogurt, and much more.
  • We started giving him whole milk about a week ago!  He hasn't had any issues with it so far, knock on wood.
  • He loves to dance and clap to songs, especially "if you're happy and you know it".
  • We are about to pack up the bottles!  (hello, counter space!)  He still loves his bottles the most, but we're pretty much breaking him end of using bottles all day except the morning or the evening.  The rest of the time it's sippy cups.  He's finally gotten the hang of using the hard-top sippy cups.  Before then, he would only drink from the soft-top ones and just scream if we gave him anything else.
  • Early in his 12th month, he started standing on his own, not holding onto anything, for short periods of time.  Now he's standing for about a minute.
  • No first steps yet!  He's walking all around, holding onto things.  It's like he's just not quite sure about being on his own yet.
  • He's really communicating now- he babbles all the time, he makes squealing noises, he imitates what we say.  He also uses gestures to communicate- mostly good, but some bad- I've noticed him hit Sydney or Taylor or pull their hair if they do something he doesn't like!  I verbally correct him with "no!" but it's kind of fun to see his little feisty side come out.  He will need it!
  • He "ran" in his first 5K this month!
  • Poor Parker had Hand, Foot, Mouth for a week this month.
  • His hair is really coming in, and it's starting to curl!

Poor guy.

Catching up

Hello, Blog, it's been a while... it's as if I was a whole year older from when I last posted.  Oh wait, I am! September has been a busy month and I thought I'd share some pictures of what's been happening.

This month has been really busy with activities, parent conferences, before-school duty, after-school duty, working at softball games at my middle school, Stephen traveling, GT games, fun outings, birthday parties, and more.

Here are some random pictures from September:
Taylor looking out for her little bro while her mommy attempts to run 3+ miles while pushing them in the 85 degree heat.  Whew!

Silly girl!

Future musician.

Chilling outside on a lazy Sunday.

Workout buddies.

Sydney and her pal Andrew at my middle school.

Sydney at the first GT game of the season.

Stephen's b-day!
Stephen celebrated the big 3-4 on September 4th!  We had a little par-tay for him one night after dinner.

Stephen's present and cards.

Parker is excited!

Yay!  A basketball! (for the forthcoming basketball goal.  I was a great planner and 2/3 of his gifts arrived days later!)

Reading the card Sydney made him.

I made some homemade fried okra with okra from our garden.

 Hanging out:

There seems to have been something to do all the time this month.  Here are a couple of fun things I did with some girlfriends.

 Fuzz Run 2013:

My favorite 5K of all times occurred the weekend of the 14th.  It's in Covington, and I've run it every year since 2006 (except the 3 years I was pregnant). This year, we pushed the kiddos.  We got a late start and started at the back, behind all the walkers.  We were running and weaving the strollers through people- it was a mess!  It did take my mind off the fact that the first few minutes of the race were all uphill.  Parker screamed the entire way and we got lots of chuckles as we ran by people.  I stopped once to get him a bottle out and one more time to pick up the bottle after he threw it on the ground.  But, overall- we had a great time!
Bo Bice from Amer. Idol lives in Covington and sang the national anthem.

Sydney got out and ran the last .1 mile to the finish line!

Post-race: Me and Meg, I'm not sure what we're doing here exactly!

Later that day, Raegan came over and I took the two girls and Parker to a birthday party.  (Taylor went with Stephen to Roswell to go to another b-day party).

BFFs.

Sydney and her princess (?) make-up.

That's my girl!

Next up... my birthday!  Yep, I am officially 33.  I have to say that my new year has started off right.  Early in the morning, we saw this:

Then, I ran in a 5K up in Maysville, GA (north GA).  It was so much fun!  My parents watched the kids for me so I could run on my own.  The race went around a park, so the scenery was nice.  We did have to run almost a mile on gravel, which was a little tough, but I managed!  It was me, myself, and I this time (Stephen had a GT game in Atlanta).

After the race, my parents found me, along with my sister and two nieces.  There was a fall festival at the park that we stayed at for a bit.  The kids got to do fun things, like a bouncy house, puppet show, saw some llama and bunny rabbits, etc.

Then, we headed back to my parents' house, where my mom cooked up an entire FEAST!  It was a delicious meal, topped off with a birthday cake and some presents.

We drove the wet trip home, and all three kiddos sacked out!  Stephen got home a little after we did, and we went to Chili's for a b-day dinner.  At the end of the night, Stephen and I both caught the most miraculous sunset.  I wish I had taken a picture, but it may not have done it justice.  We caught it at just the right time, because when we went back minutes later to look, darkness had taken over.  A beautiful start and finish to a wonderful birthday!

More September fun to come!

Poor baby :(

Poor Parker... not only have I never seen him this sick, I don't think I've seen any of my kids this sick!  We are on day 7 and he hasn't improved much.  I'm worried about dehydration at this point, because he's not drinking much and hasn't had any wet diapers or tears in the last 6 hours.  Nurse line gave me some advice to try before taking him to the ER.  He just sacked out after taking some medicine, so here's hoping he will get better soon.  Here are some pathetic pictures of my sweet boy!

Hand, Foot, and Mouth- oh my!

Poor Parker is sick.  It started last week with a cough.  It continued the last couple of days with slight diarrhea and just an overall sense that he didn't feel well (crying out in the middle of the night, out-of-control drooling, crankiness, not eating well).  I took him to daycare this morning, knowing he didn't feel well (hello, mommy guilt!).  I told his teacher to call me if they needed me to get him.  They called 20 minutes after I got to work- his fever went from 99 (when I took him) to 101.5 that quickly. :(  So, I got my stuff together and plans ready for a sub, and I headed home to spend the day with my little man!

I took him to the doctor, and he has a virus that is similar to hand, foot, mouth disease.  The doctor said that he has blisters all over his throat.  Poor little guy!  Since it's a virus, there's no antibiotic to take, so I'm supposed to give him motrin and a maalox/benadryl concoction to ease the throat pain.

He was really sleepy today and just had that pathetic, "I don't feel well" look to him.  We hung out, he slept a good bit, I took a nap, we got medicine at Publix, got the car washed, went for a walk, and got the girls from school.  My mom came down tonight and will be keeping Parker all day tomorrow.  (what do you know- this happened while Stephen was in Cali!  It never fails!)

Busy month

Whew, this is going to be a busy month for us in the K-Bash household.  Stephen and I sat down tonight to go through our calendar, just to get things straight.  We've already double-booked a couple of things, so we had to get our stuff together.

This month includes:

  • 9 family birthdays
  • 2 family birthday parties
  • 5 friend's birthday parties, 2 of which we can't make because of another commitment, and two that are at the same time that we will have so split up going to.
  • Dinner/comedy show for me w/ friends
  • Church women's group event
  • Neighborhood Bunco
  • Volunteering at 2 school softball games
  • Falcons' game for Stephen
  • Early morning and afternoon duty at school for a whole week
  • Curriculum night one evening at school
  • Stephen traveling several times
  • Stephen going to a couple GT games
  • Church potluck dinner
  • Parent conferences at school
  • 2 5K races
  • An art festival
  • Brother/Sis-in-law/niece coming in town
  • High school football game
Whew!  Lots and lots going on.  But, thankfully it is all fun things.  I'm really looking forward to the fall and all the great events that come along with it.  Bring it!

Sydney's haircut

So... Sydney's hair is LONG.  It's so curly that you don't realize how long it really is until it's wet.  A few more inches, and this girl could sit on her hair in the shower!  As pretty as it is long, I thought it might be good to go ahead and get it cut.

I took her to a haircut place last weekend, and put it in the hands of the hairdresser.  I was originally thinking cutting off about 6 inches, or to the shoulders.  The hairdresser was worried that it may spring up too much, and suggested 4 inches with some layers.  I told her to roll with it.  It's not so drastic of a change, but it's much easier to brush after the shower, and it's awfully shiny all of a sudden.  And, her curls are still there!  (Part of me was afraid they would go away!)

Here's the story of her haircut, in pictures:
